Strategies
Driving distances are longer than you might expect, particularly in Yellowstone, so be realistic when planning your days and don’t try to see too much. Choosing a few places to stay within the park and relocating every few days can help minimize your driving time. If you’d prefer to move less frequently, choose a few areas that particularly interest you and focus your time there.
Properties within the parks range from historic hotels to rustic cabins to basic campsites. The hotels and cabins book up very quickly during high season – to get your first choice of accommodations, make your reservations up to a year in advance.
If you are considering renting a private home or cabin, be sure to check the property’s distance from the park(s). On our first visit, we rented a beautiful cabin in Big Sky, MT, not realizing it was a 1.5 hour drive to the nearest Yellowstone National Park entrance.
Direct flights are now available during the winter months from Newark, San Francisco, Houston and Minneapolis to Jackson Hole.
