This is an exceptional hotel, the best Rocco Forte hotel we’ve ever stayed at (which is saying a lot). The service is impeccable, and everything is top quality. We also liked the peaceful location, off the elegant Bebelplatz within walking distance of Museum Island. The hotel was originally the headquarters of Dresdner Bank and retains elements from the prewar building. Inside, palazzo-style architecture mixes with contemporary furnishings. The bank’s former vault now houses a mosaic-tiled pool, and the roof terrace offers a view of the Brandenburg Gate.

This luxurious landmark hotel has a busy but enviable location facing the Brandenburg Gate on the Unter den Linden promenade. Built 1997, it is considered one of Berlin’s finest hotels, with an opulent if rather generic Continental style. 409 rooms, including three presidential suites.

This late-Bauhaus structure in Mitte has been home to a department store and the Communist Party archives. As of 2010, it’s now a chic private members’ club and boutique hotel, with 40 bedrooms in six different categories. 20 apartments and studios are scheduled to open in summer 2012. The hotel also features a bistro, spa, heated plunge pool, private cinema and terrace bar.
