topNorth Island
North Island Lodge
20-minute helicopter flight from MahéPO Box 1176, Victoria, Mahé, Seychelles
Tel: +248 293 100
Just ¾ of a square mile in size, North Island is a private wildlife sanctuary, and is only open to guests staying at its luxury eco-lodge. The 11 villas are designed to harmonize with the environment and capture the essence of the island, while providing the utmost in privacy, location, facilities and service. Each villa has two bedrooms and its own plunge pool. The lodge’s focal point is the Island Piazza, housing the dive and activity center, dining center, lounge and the exquisite library, built of coral rocks; on the hill above the Piazza is the 45-meter main pool. Activities can be either guided or on your own, and include scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, sea kayaking, bicycles and island buggies, and excursions to fascinating Silhouette Island, a short distance to the south. There’s also a wonderfully indulgent spa. The culinary experience is based on fresh, local seafood and the Seychelles’ diverse Creole culture. North Island offers a “no menu” concept of dining – the chef finds out the personal food preferences of each guest and develops the menus daily around this information.

This brand-new resort features 67 luxury villas perched on stilts on a jungled hillside overlooking the coast, or nestled in the greenery closer to the beach. Each villa has a private plunge pool and outside deck. Other features include two world-class restaurants and a full-service spa with incredible ocean views. The resort offers a number of amenities specifically for children, such as child-sized robes and a T-shirt printed with their name. Besides the pool and fitness facility, there is a water-sports pavilion offering scuba, snorkeling, kayaking and trimaran cruises.
Banyan Tree
Anse Intendance, Mahé
Tel: +248 438 3500
This resort on the southwest coast offers 60 Creole-styled villas in a lush rainforest setting, next to pristine Intendance Bay. The villas offer private plunge pools, verandas and elegant furnishings. However, the resort struck us as rather dated, and the privacy of the surrounding trees can interfere with the views. Four restaurants serving international cuisines, full-service spa. Activities include catamaran cruises, mountain biking, snorkeling and canoeing.
