Travel Tips
Be sure to bring socks to wear in the Mosques, since you will need leave your shoes outside (and floors can be dirty). It’s best to avoid wearing shorts. And for females, definitely take a scarf for your shoulders.
I recommend taking a ferry ride down the Bosphorus from Istanbul – it’s very pleasant, scenic and relaxing. If you don’t have a full day, go at least as far as the magnificent Rumeli Hisari (or Fortress of Europe) at Anadolu Kavagi, near the point where the Bosphorus reaches the Black Sea – the trip takes about 1.5 each way. Istanbul Deniz Otobüsleri runs three ferries a day during the summer, departing from Ferry Terminal 3 at the Eminonu Pier. Check with your concierge for exact times.
When shopping in the Istanbul bazaars, it’s good to arrange a guide, who can help you bargain and keep you from getting lost. Make a list of the items you want to buy and share it with your guide. Your concierge can also recommend the best places to buy certain items, such as carpets.
