The word "ghetto" originated here, and refers to a foundry, or geto, that formerly occupied the site. Venetian Jews were once confined to this quarter, which today maintains much of its ethnic character. The small museum houses a collection of sacred artifacts. It's well worth taking the guided tour of the museum and synagogues, you'll see things you might otherwise miss.

Also known as Tintoretto's church, this gothic jewell is decorated with much of his most famous works. Tintoretto lived nearby and is buried in the church.
