Pont du Gard
Dating to 19 BC, this bridge that spans the Gard River was part of an aqueduct that transported water from a spring near Uzès to Roman Nîmes. It was the tallest aqueduct in the Roman Empire. Its three tiers of arches, built with huge limestone blocks, some as heavy as 6 tons, were put together without mortar.
