top11-Day Family Itinerary
Prepared especially for My Little Swans, this tour is filled with fun, engaging activities like a traditional Maori food experience, a stay at a working sheep station, a scenic helicopter flight, and a whale-watching cruise. Family-friendly resorts and a good balance of relaxation and recreation make this the perfect introduction to New Zealand’s wonders.
Your adventure starts in the North Island. A night in Auckland allows time to relax and refresh after the long haul flight, staying at the Sofitel positioned in a tranquil marina setting near the vibrant Viaduct Harbour. Then, begin your predominantly self-drive itinerary with two nights at Treetops Lodge in Rotorua, a region known for its Maori culture and geothermal activity. The luxury lodge, which has a very relaxed atmosphere and offers wonderful walks through the native bush, makes a great base for exploring the area.
Flying south to Wellington, you’ll enjoy an introductory tour of our Capital City with a visit to Te Papa Museum, which provides interactive and informative insights into New Zealand’s land and history. Next, head over the hills to Wharekauhau for two nights at this fabulous coastal lodge property on a working sheep station. The 4WD farm tour is great fun for the whole family, offering a hands-on on introduction into farming life in New Zealand.
Then, on to the South Island. Flying south to Blenheim, you’ll drive via the scenic East Coast to Kaikoura. Here, you’ll spend two nights in stylish and fun treehouse-style accommodation and enjoy a whale-watching excursion to view the resident sperm whales. Driving south to Christchurch, we suggest flying on to Queenstown for three nights at Millbrook, a very family-friendly resort. Your stay here includes a 90-minute private helicopter excursion to Milford Sound as an exhilarating way to view this magnificent fiord.
