I’ve always loved jewelry – it is at the heart of life, at the crossroads of art and technique, of desire and pleasure. Growing up, I wanted to make beautiful things that were accessible to everyone. After graduating from the engineering school Centrale, I began designing costume jewelry, and from 1988 to 1998, I sold the pieces under my first name, LORENZ. In 1992, I designed my first piece of fine jewelry under my own name – and that day I entered a magical realm, a world filled with precious stones. “There, everything is only order and beauty, luxury, calm and voluptuous pleasure.”
I get my ideas from the three universes that inspire me: poet, architect and gardener. Poetry is a message, a mystery, a shared creative act. Architecture is an alchemy of physics, geometry and design, all approaching a state of perfection. And on my quest for precious fruits – gemstones, minerals and pearls – I imagine myself as a gardener of the world. Nature fascinates me, and jewelry allows me to create and tame it. Fruit, plants, insects, animals and ocean creatures are regular motifs, never failing to spark my imagination.
Each time I invite a client to come into my universe, I keep in mind the precept of Brillat-Savarin – when you invite a guest in, their pleasure is your responsibility while they are under your roof. To me, a piece of jewelry has no other objective than to provide happiness. Thus, every visit to my salons must be an exceptional experience.
