Activities

Finding things to do is no problem on Lizard, with a fully staffed Beach Club and instructors always on hand to offer assistance to beginners and experts alike. Naturally many of the options on Lizard Island involve the water. Snorkeling equipment and lessons are provided. You can snorkel off a secluded beach to discover a garden of giant clams, many a metre long and some reputed to be 120 years old. Or you can keep your feet dry in catamarans or glass bottom surf skis. Discover secluded, pristine beaches by foot or by motorised dinghy with a gourmet picnic. Try bushwalking, tennis or perhaps indulge in the serenity and relaxation of a pampering treatment at the Azure Spa. Sensational diving opportunities abound, including the famous Cod Hole, where you'll come face to face with a massive, yet curious Potato Cod swimming right up to inspect you with child-like curiosity. For divers, the island is only a 50-minute boat ride to the legendary Outer Great Barrier Reef. Fishing enthusiasts can charter the boat Fascination for a day of exhilarating game fishing (additional cost). The Ribbon Reefs near Lizard Island are renowned for some of the best big game fishing in the world, home to the impressive Black Marlin, as well as Tuna, Mackerel, Trevally and Swordfish.

Access

To visit Lizard Island you must first fly to Cairns. From there guests take a scheduled or private charter (1 hour scenic flight) to Lizard Island airstrip. Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Qantas all operate regular direct flights between Sydney and Cairns.
