In a world where true frontiers are increasingly rare, the Arctic still retains its mystique —a stark and sparsely populated land, draped in snow and clad in ice.
The most intrepid of explorers have always been drawn here, and on this one-of-a-kind adventure, you can follow in their footsteps (but with the benefit of experienced guides and modern comforts).
This 8-day itinerary was custom-designed by legendary African safari guide Jan Kortland, who knows a few things about traveling the wilds in comfort and style.
He was utterly captivated by the Arctic on his recent trip to the archipelago of Svalbard, and you will be, too.
Accompanied by Jan and a professional local guide, you’ll see the remarkable landscapes and wildlife of the Arctic on an intimate scale, traveling from place to place by dog sled and snowmobile (which you’ll drive yourself). Along the way, you’ll discover the region’s fascinating geology and colorful history, and spot caribou, seals, Arctic birds and polar bears as you glide past spectacular mountains, fjords and frozen lakes.
In the evenings, you’ll retire to a variety of unique accommodations: a rustic but luxurious Trapper’s Hotel, a 100-year-old, two-masted schooner, a renovated radio station, and a North Pole camp on the ice! Imagine relaxing by the fire after a day of unforgettable explorations, as the chef prepares a hearty meal and the Northern Lights shimmer and flare overhead.
